NY-SAAN wants its voice to be heard about issues effecting older adults and the workforce serving them.  NY-SAAN members play an important role in meeting the this goal. As advocates for policies designed to improve quality of life we will encourage, promote and support legislative actions, programs, and ideals  dedicated to this cause.

The Honorable Barbara Boxer
United State Senate
112 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, DC 20510

Dear Senator Boxer:

The New York Southern Area Aging Network (NY-SAAN), a consortium of area agencies on aging, including Dutchess, Nassau, Putnam, Rockland, Suffolk, Westchester,New York City and Ulster counties, long term care facilities, non-profit and community- based organizations, businesses and academic institutions, strongly supports your legislation,The Caring for an Aging America Act of 2008.

NY-SAAN is dedicated to addressing issues affecting older persons and the workforce serving them in the southern tier of New York State region where approximately 2.2 million person 60 of age and older reside.

Our rapidly growing aging population has reached proportions not seen in this nation’s history. As you well know this growth has far outpaced the growth of specially trained providers, which is why NY-SAAN is behind this critical legislation and will work with you and your colleagues to ensure its success. Attracting and retaining health care workers in the area of geriatrics and gerontology with incentives, as this legislation provides, is the best way of gaining student’s and worker’s interest in this specialty.

Again NY-SAAN appreciates your stellar leadership on a legislation that can make a tremendous difference and real impact on the growth of the professional healthcare workforce for this nation’s aging population.  If you should have any questions please feel free to contact us or have your staff contact Dozene Guishard at (914) 813-6407 or Colette Phipps at (914) 813-6441.

Sincerely,
